The Kamloops Therapeutic Riding Association relies on the dedication and support of our volunteers to run our program. Our volunteers must be passionate, active, and dedicated — and in return they gain an experience that is truly like no other.
Previous horse experience is welcomed and encouraged, but absolutely not required. All volunteer training is provided by our certified instructors.
Volunteer Roles
Lesson Volunteer
What you do: Get a horse ready for their lesson, lead a horse during the lesson, or side-walk alongside a rider
Time commitment: Minimum 60 minutes once a week for 6-12 weeks
Sessions run: Spring · Summer · Fall · Winter
On-Call Volunteer
Role: On-Call Volunteer
What you do: Fill in when a regular volunteer is away, or help when we’re short-staffed
Time commitment: Flexible — no set weekly commitment
Barn Chores
Role: Barn Chores
What you do: Cleaning paddocks, mucking stalls, cleaning feed buckets, filling water buckets
Time commitment: Flexible — based on what works for your schedule

Meet Sandy...
Sandy has been volunteering with KTRA since 2009. He is our volunteer yards and maintenance specialist. Although he is often reprimanded for spoiling the horses with his “training through treats program” his passion and commitment to KTRA is invaluable.

KTRA is governed by a Board of Directors who are dedicated to ensuring our Association’s budgetary, human resource, and basic operation needs are met. They meet on average once a month and are in frequent contact with the KTRA staff in order to plan and coordinate as required.
