At the Kamloops Therapeutic Riding Association, a weekly riding lesson can mean far more than time spent on horseback. It is an opportunity for riders to build confidence, strengthen their bodies, and form meaningful connections with both horses and their community.
Written by nursing students at Thompson Rivers University who witnessed firsthand the impact of KTRA’s program, this article highlights the reach of what we do. KTRA currently supports approximately 119 children aged 4 to 18, 140 youth aged 18 to 25, and 65 adults — all living with physical, neurological, developmental, or cognitive challenges.
One family shared their experience:
“My son absolutely loves animals and is excited to see and ride his horse each week. His first day, he could not stop talking about his experience. The association welcomed us as if we were long-standing members. It’s been nothing but a positive experience and I absolutely love the full inclusion for my child.”
